Remembering Uchenna Okoli: A Legacy of Love Uchenna Okoli, a devoted father and husband, left a profound impact on all who knew him. Tragically, Uchenna passed away at the age of 50 in April 2023 after a diagnosis of a neuroendocrine tumour (NET). His journey began when he discovered a lump on his throat, leading to a diagnosis that would forever change his family’s life. Uchenna was known for his unwavering love and dedication to his family. In his memory, his wife Olapeju (Ola) Okoli, embarked on a mission to honor Uchenna’s legacy and support others facing similar battles. This led to the founding of the Uchemokoli Foundation, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness and funds for those affected by NET. The foundation focuses on supporting the work of the NET team at Colchester Hospital, aiming to improve the information available to general practitioners, and provide practical information and support for those diagnosed with this rare cancer and their families. The Uchemokoli Foundation also aims to continue the work of the NET team in providing a supportive community for families affected by NET. Ola believes in the power of shared experiences and the importance of coming together in times of need. Recently, the NET team held a family event, bringing together those affected by neuroendocrine tumours. The event funded by Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity through funding provided by the foundation, highlighted the strength of community and the vital difference they can make. As the Uchemokoli Foundation continues to grow, Ola remains committed to honoring Uchenna’s memory by providing hope and support to families just like her own and ensures that his legacy lives on by helping many others for years to come. Ola explains her journey in the video below, alongside gasterenterology consultant, Dr Mary McStay. Manage Cookie Preferences
