This weekend, some truly inspiring people will be taking on the Ipswich Half Marathon to raise money for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity. Each of them has their own story, and their reasons for running are full of love, gratitude, and determination. We couldn’t be prouder to cheer them on.

Bradley Wood

Bradley has already raised over £1,028 in support of the Radiotherapy Unit at Ipswich Hospital. Earlier this year, his wife Karina faced a cancer diagnosis and treatment, and thankfully is now in remission.

Bradley says the Radiotherapy team were “nothing short of amazing” — always kind, flexible, and reassuring. Running the half marathon is his way of giving back and helping to improve the facilities for others who will need the same care.

Charlotte White

Charlotte is stepping out of her comfort zone to run her very first half marathon — something she admits felt a little “mad” at the start, having never run before!

Her motivation comes from her friend Bessie, who has been supported by the Ipswich Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre throughout her cancer journey. Charlotte is running to say thank you to the centre for the information, emotional support, and care they’ve given Bessie and many others.

Rosie Houghton

Rosie is running in memory of her niece, Amelia, and has already raised £305 for the Baby Bereavement Group at Ipswich Hospital.

She shared that the support her sister and brother-in-law received after losing Amelia was filled with “love, care, and dignity.” Rosie hopes her fundraising will help the Baby Bereavement Team continue their gentle and vital work supporting families during the most heartbreaking of times.

Gail Ashworth

In June 2023, Gail received a shocking ovarian cancer diagnosis. After months of chemotherapy and surgery, she is now rebuilding her strength and has set herself an incredible triple challenge to give back to the Collingwood Centre team who cared for her.

She has already conquered the Welsh 3000s mountain challenge, and now she’s taking on the Ipswich Half Marathon as her second goal — before walking from Colchester to Ipswich Hospital in the Hospital Hero Hike next month.

Gail has raised an amazing £1,692 so far and says, “With determination, resilience, the help of many good friends, and a bit of luck, we can beat cancer.”

Harrison Cant

Harrison is running in memory of his much-loved Grandad, Alan Dalton, who sadly passed away recently.

Alan was, in Harrison’s words, a role model — kind, loving, and someone who always made people smile. Harrison is raising money for the Colchester CCU and Respiratory Services, who cared for Alan with compassion. He has already raised an impressive £827 in his honour.

Lewis Williams

The Williams family is fundraising for the Colchester Hospital Neonatal Unit after their son, Jude, was born 9 weeks early and required specialist care. Deeply grateful for the incredible support and compassion they received during a difficult time, they’re now dedicated to raising funds to help the unit continue its vital work for other babies and families.

Through a wide range of events—from bake sales and cricket matches to marathons and charity runs—they’ve rallied friends and family to support the cause. Best of luck to Curtis Franklin, Jack Mulligan, and Lewis Williams as they take on the Ipswich Half Marathon this weekend—go smash it, Team Jude!
