Freemasons taking steps for charity Members of Mersea Island Lodge No. 5534 Essex Freemasons proudly stepped in to support their local hospitals and demonstrate how Essex Freemasons play an active role in their communities. On Saturday, 4 October, Worshipful Master, Guy Farrow, led fellow members Will Bixby, Robin Bailey, Liam McGurl, and Nick Moffatt on the 21-mile ‘Hospital Hero Hike’, raising funds for services and comforts that go beyond what the NHS can provide. The challenge took the team across fields, stiles and steep gradients, all while enduring the winds of Storm Ami. Despite the difficult conditions, they completed the route in just eight hours, tired but in good spirits. Through donations and pledges still coming in, the Lodge has already raised over £1,000 to support us. These funds will help provide both essential medical equipment and the small comforts that ease a patient’s stay, such as slippers to prevent falls and refreshments for those undergoing treatment. Reflecting on the day, Will Bixby said:“Twent y-one miles might sound like a lot, but it’s just one step at a time until you reach the end. The NHS goes the extra mile every day to care for people, and we wanted to do something that mirrors that commitment. The Hospital Hero Hike is a great way to give back, and we’d encourage others to get involved.” Manage Cookie Preferences
