Staff Wellbeing Appeal Finding calm through creativity This May, staff and volunteers were invited to take a moment away from the busy hospital environment and enjoy a calming creative workshop in the wellbeing garden. Led by local artist Madeleine Tapp, and in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society, the 'Art in the Garden' workshop welcomed 11 staff members to take part in a collaborative artwork that will soon be displayed within the hospital. Designed to encourage mindfulness through creativity, the session focused on the calming process of making art rather than the finished product. Staff were encouraged to slow down, focus on their breath, thoughts and surroundings, and enjoy being fully present in the moment without judgement or pressure. No previous artistic experience was needed, creating an inclusive and relaxed space for everyone to take part. The workshop offered a creative form of meditation, helping participants enter a gentle flow state and step away from the demands and pressures that can often come with working in a hospital setting. Through colour, texture and conversation, staff were able to connect with one another, regulate their minds and experience a moment of calmness and relaxation. The finished collaborative artwork will be displayed within the hospital as a wonderful reminder of the importance of wellbeing, creativity and taking time to pause. Workshops like these form part of our charity’s ongoing commitment to supporting the wellbeing of our staff and volunteers, helping provide opportunities to rest, recharge and care for themselves while they continue caring for others.
