Patients receiving treatment in Ipswich Hospital’s Woolverstone Centre will benefit from new comfort-focused equipment thanks to the continued generosity of a local family business.

Whip Street Motors Ltd, a long-standing supporter of Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity, has funded the purchase of 320 PICC line covers to support patients undergoing cancer treatment. These specialist covers, costing in total £3793, are designed to keep PICC lines dry and comfortable during bathing and showering, an everyday activity that can otherwise be extremely difficult and stressful for patients.

Made from durable, supportive materials, the covers protect the PICC line without constricting, making them especially suitable for patients who have circulatory issues or sensitive skin. As these covers are not routinely provided by the NHS, the donation will save patients the cost of sourcing them personally while helping them maintain comfort, dignity, and independence during treatment.

Charlie Baker, one of four brothers at the family-run firm, said: “The oncology unit is very close to our hearts as we have many friends and customers who have been treated there. We know how important the small things can be when someone is going through treatment. Being able to make day-to-day life a little easier for patients means a great deal to us.”

Sandra Gosney, community fundraising manager for the charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Whip Street Motors Ltd for their continued support. PICC line covers may seem simple, but they will have a significant impact on patients comfort and wellbeing. Donations like this make a real difference to patients and their families.”
