This year, Allen Smith is marking his 70th birthday in a meaningful way and raising funds for the Collingwood Cancer Treatment Centre at Colchester Hospital. 

Allen was diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer in January 2023. After a complex 10 hour surgery, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, cancer cells were later found in his lungs. Despite ongoing treatments, Allen remains determined to give back to the team that has cared for his with such dedication.

Alongside his wife, Rona, Allen hosted a series of afternoon teas this June, with all proceeds going directly to the Collingwood Centre. The events were a great hit, with thanks to the incredible support from friends and family.

The Collingwood Centre treats around 90 patients each day, offering chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other essential therapies. Their work, including outreach through a mobile cancer unit, makes a huge difference to patient's lives.
